Night Friends

In the daylight is when we play now.

For at night,

that is when their demons run wild.

Screaming anxieties,

numbing the pain with substances,

procrastinating and self-sabotage again and again,

because years of the same result isn’t enough.

No.

I will not give my time away when the sun goes down anymore.

When all the chaos and noise begins.

I’ll keep my boundaries firm.

Leave when I need to so that I may know,

where you end and I begin.

I will no longer blend the two,

sinking myself down in order to fit in.

Not anymore.

So play in your lightness my friends.

For that is the only time I’ll be.
