Sweat Lodge

I still have yet to attend a sweat lodge. However, my dear friend has gone many times and gave me a guideline to prepare for the experience.

You will be sweating a lot so drink plenty of water the day prior and earlier in the day. Try not to drink too much closer to the event so you can avoid using the bathroom during the ceremony. During the ceremony you can’t leave to go to the bathroom. Ceremonies have different lengths of hours it goes on for, for my friend it was three hours. You can not pee during the event. Keep that in mind when consuming liquids close beforehand. Try to go to the bathroom right before the event.

Try not to eat a heavy dense meal prior to the event. You want to eat nourishing food that leave you feeling light and providing you with energy. Optional activities to do before are heart-opening yoga and to think about your intention for the ceremony, perhaps write it down or journal about it.

Wear loose, flowy, breathable clothes like cotton or a long skirt. Try not to wear jewelry as it may burn your skin from the heat. You will be sweating a LOT so she opts to go commando, but to each their own.

In the car leave your phone, a change of clothes, wet wipes to wipe down yourself from the sweat. You’ll most likely be in a dirt hurt so you will get dirty and sweaty. Have water in the car for yourself for the drive home. Coconut water is also a nice refreshment to nourish yourself.

Some places might have a community potluck afterwards. If so, bring your own plate and utensils and maybe some food to contribute. It’s a great way to bond by eating together. You should eat something regardless if in a putlock or not to get energy back into your body.

Sometimes at the ceremony there is a tree of life or an alter that you may want to give an offering or donation to.

I hope these few tips will help on your adventure to a sweat lodge!惃
