My ‘Why’

My initial spark in seeking out yoga teacher training was to share and explore a passion. Yoga helped me in some many ways that I wish to share with others from my own unquie lens.

My first intention is to break down the asanas and go over all of the alignment cues that I learned throughout the training. I felt that any teacher could call out poses, but I want to make sure student felt the alignment within their body to feel safe, balanced, and invigorated. I had experience attending yoga classes where instructors would simply call out pose names and I would have no idea what it felt like within or if I was ever “doing it correctly”. I would look around the room confused to see if my body looked the same to those around me. I felt that more alignment cues would be beneficial in truly understanding the practice. I want my students to feel empowered within themselves and to know what the poses should feel like in their own body. I want to teach a man to fish vs giving them a fish.

My second intention is to approach yoga from a mental perspective. To build a connection and understanding with your body, acknowledging what feels good for each individual specifically and what does not. I’m not a huge fan of mirrors to not focus our attention on how we look physically but more so how we feel. There is no need to look “perfect” or to judge or compare ourselves to another. Simply notice how we feel in the pose and during the transitions. A safe space to reflect internally, instead of externally. A space to explore yourself, build a deeper relationship with both the body and the mind in a kind, loving, and gentle way.

Life is busy and demanding. I want the classes I teach to be a space to relax, to feel non-judgement, to be easy-going. I want students to leave feel deeply stretched with a calmed nervous system, and to feel revitalized afterwards.
